Various parts
of Bangladesh were hit by a prolonged cold this winter (November 2002-February
2003). The HFB Representative in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia, Dr.
Sheikh Sharif Iqbal, proposed for distribution
of Warm Clothes in some of the cold-hit areas within our reach, especially
at Dinajpur, Khulna and Dhaka districts
of Bangladesh. Hasana Foundation Bangladesh
took this opprtunity to participate with the expatriate Bangladeshis' move
to distribute warm clothes at Dinajpur and Dhaka. The total budget for
this region stood at Tk. 12000/, the break-up was as follows:

Foundation Bangladesh: Tk. 2000/- (from Zakat Fund)
Contribution
from Expatriate Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia: Tk. 8000/-

Mrs. Rezwan Khan, BUET: Tk. 2000/- + some used clothes
Accordingly, 35
new blankets, 20 full-sleeve woolen shirts and 50 used woolen sweaters
were bought and transported free of cost to Dinajpur by Shyamoli
Paribahan. The clothes were distributed during 24-26
January 2003, among the poor and needy people of Dinajpur. Cothes
worth Tk. 10155/ was distributed at Dinajpur and those worth Tk.1,495
at Dhaka. Tk. 350/ was also distributed to buy medicines for some cold
victims.
Dr. Sheikh Sharif
Iqbal, the HFB Representative in the
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, took the responsibility to distribute
warm clothes at Khulna district.
Later, he left an additional Tk.1000/-
(with the Hasana Foundation Bangladesh) to be used for the same purpose.
